The villa has remained the school symbol, and in this composition Jacob de Haan views “Ross Roy” as a metaphor for the years spent at school, where one's personality is formed. The main theme is developed through a series of variations, rich in stylistic contrasts and dramatic building points. It is no coincidence that the final segment is reminiscent of the close to a traditional overture, for the school years can be considered the “overture” to the rest of one's life. Dur. 20.
