Originalus

Music for King Lear for Large Brass Ensemble composed by Claude Debussy. 1862-1918. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. For 16-part brass ensemble. French Impressionist. Advanced. Score and parts. Published by Cherry Classics. CY.CC2596. Debussy wrote this five minute work in 1904 for a production of King Lear. The music is in A-B-A form beginning with a fanfare containing a combination of open and complex chords, giving it an ancient sound. The middle section is a relaxed intermezzo called "Lear Asleep" which is followed by a return to the fanfare. The music has been beautifully scored by Ralph Sauer for a 16-part large brass ensemble with timpani and percussion and is appropriate for advanced performers. Mr. Sauer has dedicated this work to the memory of Adolf "Bud" Herseth.
